Re-Opening of Club LOVE

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on March 23, 2010 by theurbanhangsuite

Club LOVE, the largest nightclub in the D.C. area was shut down by police earlier this year in the event of a non-fatal stabbing.

Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier ordered the club to close its doors for 96 hours after the stabbing because it was the clubs third violent incident. Those 96 days turned into a definite decision by the Alcohol Beverage Regulation Administration at a hearing on January 8, 2010. Owners appealed the decision at a hearing on January 12, 2010 and here we are in March with the grand re-opening of Club Love.

Top promoter Arondo Douglas was the first on the scene to throw a party. This Saturdy, the 27th, is the Re-Opening of LOVE party!

Posted in Uncategorized on March 16, 2010 by theurbanhangsuite

It’s Spring Break this week for the Morgan State Bears! With the recent upset with March Madness, it’s only right for the Bears to celebrate the right way. It’s all because of The Powerhouse DJ’s

These guys shut down Eden’s Lounge yesterday, like they do every Monday!

The crowd at Eden's.

Let’s go baby, to the hole in the wall

It’s usually quiet when the night begins. There aren’t a lot of people at the bar; the music is hip-hop from the 90’s. You can feel the icy draft from the door opening and closing in the background combating the anticipation in the room. People are ready. Waiting. Willing. All of this happens before 12 pm.

“It’s always like this in the beginning,” Jennifer Halloway, a junior at Loyola College, screamed over a techno beat. “Give it a chance, I’m sure it’ll get better. It always does. The fun is coming.”

Ugh, where does the time go? I spotted this last night! I think he knew I was taking a pic of him. Oh well. This is the top half of his body…and yes, he had the Omarion baby hair.

And this is the bottom. Shameful.

Leave one.

I know it’s Thursday, but…

I know it’s Thursday, but…I couldn’t let this go without showing SOMEBODY! So, I chose to show you all. Feel lucky.

Last week at BWX Lounge my friend ran across this atrocity. It may be a little hard to see only because it was taken from a camera phone. In the background, can you see the striped bandit? One of her friends told her this was a cute outfit. Well, I’m sorry lady, but your friends LIED.

WARNING: This is not for the faint at heart.

Late Edition: Shout Out Mondays

Posted in Uncategorized on November 17, 2009 by theurbanhangsuite

Sheyna Mikeal is a 21 year old senior, majoring in Psychology and Sociology at Johns Hopkins University. With such a heavy course load every semester, one wouldn’t think she would have enough time in the day to do the things she does. TheUrbanHangSuite caught up with Sheyna in the small cracks of her busy schedule to get the inside scoop on how she even has time to breathe, let alone promote a party.

How long have you been promoting?

This is my third year.  I started in my sophomore year.

How did you get involved?

My bestfriend was asked to be in it and I took her to meet the guy and he asked me then to join so thatvwe can basically over flood Hopkins with Union events.

What kinds of perks do you get as a promoter? Access to anything free? A stipend?

Promoters get into all of the clubs and events free.  We can also earn money if we are able to sell VIP tables or bottles. So like 100 for each table and 50 for bottles.  That is why they be so expensive because the cost pays for the promoters.  We also can get a stipened if we really worked hard for a particular event but that is based off if how the boss felt we did.

What kind of promotion tactics do you use?

Facebook and word of mouth.  I find that flyering really don’t work as effectively as changing and posting pics of the flyer on facebook.

What is the last party you promoted for? How was the turn out?

The last party was the Mardi Gras party at club one on November 14.  DJ Flow dj’d. It was slow at first but by midnight it was packed and honestly it hasn’t been that hype in a minute.

What’s one thing you would change about Baltimore clubs? What’s one thing you wouldn’t change?

The clubs should be open later possibly to 3 or 4 like DC.  More options for clubs not lounges for the 21 and over crowd because we like to party to and lounges sometimes feel too small.   I would keep the hypeness and the atmosphere of just going out to dance the same.

It was a regular Monday night; Red Maple with the Powerhouse DJ’s, bumping elbows with the Morgan State Bears and dancing crazily to Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’. All was expected and nothing was new. Until, we got to the door of Red Maple and the usual bouncer wasn’t at the door. In fact, there was no one at the door. The inside was dark and the doors were bolted shut as if a nightclub never existed there. There were a million questions zooming through my head at once. Was it cancelled tonight? Did it move? How come the move wasn’t advertised if it was? Where is it, because I don’t have ten dollars to spare after 10pm.

Linked In Thursdays

Of course this entire blog is dedicated to night life in Baltimore. But just the other day something popped into my mind! Maybe a lot of people that read my blog don’t really like going out every night to clubs or bars. There is a population of people that would rather find something fun and free to do that doesn’t involve working up a sweat and dressing in scantily clad.

Well, if you’re one of those people. This is for you:

50 FREE things to do in Baltimore:

1. The streets and shops of Antique Row are riddled with interesting and historical finds from art to collectibles to coins and old books. The windows on this promenade are full of intriguing and sometimes odd bits of history for you to enjoy.

12. The 745-acre Druid Hill Park ranks among the oldest landscaped public parks in the United States

18. In locations all across Baltimore…grab a blanket or a folding chair and catch a free film after dusk

42. Set aside Friday and Saturday evenings to hear Smooth Live Jazz at the Celebrities Lounge of the Tremont Park Hotel. Performances run from 6-9 PM on Fridays and 7-10 PM on Saturdays. Admission is free with door prizes and drink specials. Great music, great food, great fun in an intimate setting. Tremont Park Hotel, 8 East Pleasant Street, call 410-576-1200 for more information.

Baltimore is full of out-of-the-box things to do. Discover them!
